Difference Between the Default Blog Section and the Blog Posts Section

In Be Yours, there are two blog-related sections that can look similar in the Theme Editor, but they serve different purposes:

Section Theme file Main purpose
Default Blog section main-blog.liquid Displays the main blog listing page on the Blog template.
Blog Posts section featured-blog.liquid Displays selected blog posts as a dynamic section that can be added to other templates.

This section is responsible for displaying the articles that belong to the blog page currently being viewed.

For example, when a customer visits:

/blogs/news

the Default Blog section displays articles from the News blog.

This section is not used to feature a random blog somewhere else on the store. It is used to build the main blog listing page.

Articles per page Controls how many blog posts display per page.
Tag filter Can display blog tag filters.
Pagination Supports paginated blog listing.

The Blog Posts section is a dynamic section that can be added to other templates.

For example, you can add it to:

Template Example use

3. Key Difference: Blog Page vs Featured Blog Content

The easiest way to understand the difference is:

Section Think of it as
Default Blog section The full blog page.

Example:

/blogs/news

This page should use the Default Blog section because it is the actual blog listing page.

This area should use the Blog Posts section because it is only showing a preview of blog posts.

Important:

The Blog Posts section does not replace the Default Blog section. It only displays selected posts from a blog in another template.

8. Common Merchant Confusion

Merchants often confuse these two sections because both display articles.

Common confusion:

Merchant question Correct explanation
“I added Blog posts, but it did not change my blog page.” The Blog Posts section is a featured content section. To change the blog page, edit the Default Blog section on the Blog template.
“I cannot select a blog in the Default Blog section.” That is expected. The Default Blog section automatically uses the current blog page.
“Where do I enable tag filters?” Tag filters are part of the Default Blog section, not the Blog Posts section.
“Where do I show latest posts on homepage?” Use the Blog Posts section.
“Why does the Blog Posts section only show a few posts?” It is designed to feature a limited number of posts. The full blog listing is handled by the Default Blog section.
“Can I use Blog Posts to replace the blog page?” No. Blog Posts is for featured previews, not full blog listing and pagination.
9. Recommended Setup

Use this recommendation to decide which section to edit.

Recommended naming in support replies:

Situation Suggested wording
Customer refers to the actual blog page “Please edit the Default Blog section on the Blog template.”
Customer wants to add posts elsewhere “Please add the Blog Posts section to that template.”
10. Notes About Highlight Settings

The Blog Posts section supports highlight settings for the heading.

When using highlight settings, please use italic formatting by selecting the text you want to highlight and then clicking the italic (I) button in the editor.

Example:

Read Our Latest Stories

Select the word you want to highlight, such as Latest, then click the italic (I) button in the editor. The theme will apply the selected highlight style to that italic text.

The Default Blog section does not use the same full section heading controls because it is tied to the Blog template layout.

11. View All Button Opens an Empty Blog Page

A common issue happens when customers click the View all button in the Blog Posts section, but the blog page they are redirected to appears empty.

This usually happens because the Default Blog section on the Blog template has been hidden or disabled.

Why this happens

The Blog Posts section uses the selected blog and can display a limited number of articles on another template, such as the homepage.

Theme file:

featured-blog.liquid

When the View all button is enabled, it links customers to the full blog page.

Example:

/blogs/news

That full blog page is controlled by the Default Blog section.

Theme file:

main-blog.liquid

If the Default Blog section is disabled on the Blog template, customers can still be redirected to the blog page, but the blog posts will not display.

How to fix it

To make sure the View all button leads to a working blog page:

  • From Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  • Find the Be Yours theme and click Customize.
  • Open the template selector at the top of the Theme Editor.
  • Select Blogs.
  • Open the blog template used by your store, such as Default blog.
  • Check the left sidebar.
  • Make sure the Default Blog section is enabled.
  • If the section is hidden, click the eye icon to enable it again.
  • Click Save.

Recommended screenshot to add:

Theme Editor > Blogs > Default blog > enable Default Blog section

Important note

The View all button in the Blog Posts section does not display the full blog content by itself. It only sends customers to the full blog page.

The full blog page still needs the Default Blog section enabled in the Blog template.
