Control Where the Terms Checkbox Appears

Why Is Checkbox Placement Important?

In many Shopify themes, integrations may not work perfectly with RT: Terms and Conditions Box (Terms Checkbox) out of the box. As a result, you may encounter issues such as display conflicts, functionality limitations, or the most common problem: the checkbox is not enforced as a required field before customers proceed to checkout.

If you need greater control over where and how the checkbox appears, manual placement allows you to customize its position to match your store's design and business requirements.

Follow the guide below to learn how to manually place the checkbox and ensure it functions correctly within your theme.

Access the Setup Tab in the Terms Checkbox Admin

Before you begin, please make sure the following requirements are met:

  • Install RT: Terms and Conditions Box (Terms Checkbox) on your Shopify store.
  • Enable the Theme App Extension for RT: Terms and Conditions Box (Terms Checkbox).
  • Enable the RT: Terms and Conditions Box (Terms Checkbox) app status.
  • If you haven't installed the app yet, you can install it from the Shopify App Store:

Manual Placement for the Concept Theme

Once everything is set up correctly, you can proceed with manually placing the checkbox within the Concept theme.

To ensure the checkbox is displayed and validated correctly, you'll need to configure each location where customers can begin the checkout process.

The guide covers the following areas:

Step 1: Select the Theme to Configure

Navigate to the Setup tab and choose the Concept theme from the available themes list.

Select your theme, then confirm your selection.

After confirming, the app will immediately verify whether the selected theme matches your current storefront theme. If the detected theme is correct, click "No, I want to select placement manually" to proceed with manual placement.

Step 2: Configure the Cart Page

After clicking Start placement setup, a new page will automatically open and take you directly to your store's Cart page.

Next, select the area where you want the Terms Checkbox to appear.

Hover over the target element—for example, the Checkout button—and verify that the highlighted area matches your intended placement. The preview will help you identify exactly where the checkbox will be inserted.

Once you've selected the correct location, choose one of the following options:

  • Insert Before — Places the checkbox immediately before the selected element.
  • Insert After — Places the checkbox immediately after the selected element.

Refer to the screenshot below to see how the placement selector works in practice. Once you're satisfied with your selected placement, click Next to continue.

Step 3: Configure the Ajax Cart / Cart Drawer

If your store does not use an Ajax Cart or Cart Drawer, simply click Next or skip step.

Once you have completed Step 2 and added the Checkbox to the Cart page, you'll be taken to the next screen, where you need to open the Cart Drawer. Keep in mind that each theme may use a different method to open the Cart Drawer.

For the Concept theme, click the Cart (bag) icon located in the top-right corner of the screen. This will open the Cart Drawer, similar to the example shown below.

Next, choose either Insert Before or Insert After, depending on where you would like the Checkbox to appear.

Step 4: Configure the Buy Now Button (Optional)

Some themes include dynamic checkout buttons such as Buy Now, Shop Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal Express Checkout.

To ensure customers accept your terms before using these accelerated checkout methods, configure the checkbox placement for the Buy Now section as well.

Final Check

After completing the setup:

  • Verify that the checkbox is visible in all configured locations.
  • Confirm that customers cannot proceed without accepting the terms.
  • Test both desktop and mobile experiences.
  • Save all changes before publishing the theme.

Your Terms Checkbox should now be correctly positioned and fully functional throughout the Concept theme.
