The Email signup popup in Maison lets you invite visitors to subscribe to your newsletter through a modal window.

You can control when the popup appears, how often it can reappear after being closed, where it is available, and whether a floating teaser is displayed so customers can reopen the signup form manually.
The popup can include:
- An image
- A heading
- An email signup form
- Supporting text
- Social media links
- Other supported content blocks inside the popup group
How to Set Up the Newsletter Popup in Maison
Steps:
Open the Email signup popup
-
From your SHOPLINE admin, open Online Store > Design.
-
Locate your Maison theme and click Design.

-
Open the Overlay group in the Theme Editor.
-
Select Email signup.

-
Enable the section if it is currently disabled.
-
Click Save.
The Overlay group contains theme elements that appear over the storefront rather than as normal page sections.
Set the popup delay
-
Open the Email signup popup.
-
Find Delay before showing.
-
Select the number of seconds Maison should wait before opening the popup.
-
The available range is from 0 to 30 seconds.
-
Click Save.
For example:
0 seconds = Show as soon as the popup is initialized
5 seconds = Wait 5 seconds before showing
15 seconds = Wait 15 seconds before showing
Maison starts the popup timer after the component has been initialized on the storefront.
Set how often the popup appears
-
Open the Email signup popup.
-
Find the frequency setting displayed in days.
-
Select a value from 0 to 30 days.
-
Click Save.
Maison remembers when a visitor closes the popup and uses this value to determine when it can automatically appear again.
For example:
0 days = Allow the popup to show on every visit
7 days = Wait at least 7 days after dismissal
30 days = Wait at least 30 days after dismissal
Show the popup only on the home page
-
Open the Email signup popup.
-
Enable Show on home page only.
-
Click Save.
When enabled, Maison renders the popup only on the storefront home page.
Disable this setting if you want the newsletter popup to be available on other storefront pages as well.
Show the popup only to visitors
-
Open the Email signup popup.
-
Enable Show only to visitors.
-
Click Save.
When this setting is enabled, Maison does not render the popup for a customer who is currently logged in.
Disable it if you want the popup to be available to both visitors and logged-in customers.
Add an image to the popup
-
Open the Email signup popup.
-
Find the Image settings.
-
Upload the image you want to display.
-
Add alternative text in the accessibility field.
-
Click Save.
On desktop, Maison displays the image above the popup content.
The popup image is hidden on mobile. This behavior is built into Maison to keep the mobile popup more compact.
Add and arrange popup content
-
Open the Email signup popup.
-
Open the Group block (Content Container).
-
Add the content blocks you want to display.

A common setup is:
Group

The default Maison popup uses a Group block as the main content container.

Add or select a Text block.
-
Enter the newsletter description.

Add social media links
-
Open the Group block (Content Container).
-
Add or select the Social media block.
-
Configure the icon size and alignment.
-
Click Save.
The Social media block uses the social account information configured for the theme.
This block is optional and can be removed if you want the popup to focus only on email signup.
Configure the popup content layout
-
Open the Group block (Content Container).
-
Use the layout settings to control the direction, alignment, and spacing between blocks.
-
Adjust the Group spacing to control the padding around the popup content.
-

The default Maison popup arranges its content vertically.
A simple recommended structure is:
Heading
Email signup form
Supporting text
Social media
Enable the floating newsletter teaser
-
Open the main Email signup popup settings.
-
Find the Floating bar settings.
-
Open Show on.
-
Select one of the following:
- Disabled
- Mobile
- Desktop
- Desktop & mobile
-
Click Save.
The floating bar is a small fixed teaser that customers can click to open the newsletter popup manually.
It remains separate from the automatic popup delay and frequency settings.
Change the floating teaser text
-
Enable the floating bar.
-
Find Text.
-
Enter the message you want to display.
For example:
Get 20% off
- Click Save.
Keep the teaser text short because it appears in a compact fixed control at the side of the screen.
Change the floating teaser position
-
Enable the floating bar.
-
Find Position.
-
Select:
- Left
- Right
-
Click Save.
Maison positions the teaser vertically near the middle of the selected side of the screen.
The theme also handles the logical direction of this control for supported right-to-left storefront layouts.
Disable the automatic popup but keep a manual teaser
Maison does not include a dedicated switch that disables automatic opening while keeping only the teaser.
The Delay before showing setting controls automatic opening, with a maximum delay of 30 seconds.
The floating teaser can be enabled independently so customers can manually open the modal.
If you need a teaser-only behavior with no automatic popup at all, that behavior is not provided by the current Email signup section settings and would require a customization.
Disable the newsletter popup
-
Open the Overlay group.
-
Select Email signup.
-
Disable or hide the section.
-
Click Save.
Disabling the Email signup section prevents the popup and its floating teaser from rendering on the storefront.
Newsletter popup settings
The Email signup popup includes the following main settings.
Delay before showing
Controls how many seconds Maison waits before automatically opening the popup.
Available range:
0–30 seconds
Frequency
Controls how many days Maison waits after the popup has been dismissed before it can automatically appear again.
Available range:
0–30 days
Setting the value to 0 allows the popup to show on every visit.
Show on home page only
Limits the popup to the storefront home page.
Show only to visitors
Hides the popup from logged-in customers.

Adds a visual image to the popup on desktop.
The image is intentionally hidden on mobile in this version of Maison.

Newsletter popup behavior
- The Email signup popup belongs to the Overlay group.
- The popup can automatically open after a delay of 0–30 seconds.
- Maison stores the time when the popup is closed in browser local storage.
- The frequency setting determines when the automatic popup can appear again after dismissal.
- Setting the frequency to
0allows it to appear on every visit. - The popup can be limited to the home page.
- The popup can be hidden from logged-in customers.
- The popup image displays on desktop and is hidden on mobile.
- The floating teaser can be shown on mobile, desktop, both, or disabled.
- Clicking the floating teaser opens the popup manually.
- The popup can be closed with the close button.
- Maison also supports closing the modal through the background mask and Escape key where supported.
- If another theme modal is already open when the automatic timer finishes, Maison does not automatically open the Email signup popup at that moment.
Popup frequency behavior
Maison records the popup dismissal in the visitor's browser.
For example, with:
Frequency: 7 days
after the visitor closes the popup, Maison waits until at least seven days have passed before the automatic popup becomes eligible to display again.
This behavior is browser-specific.
The popup may appear again sooner if:
- The visitor uses another browser.
- The visitor uses another device.
- Browser local storage is cleared.
- Private browsing or browser restrictions prevent the stored value from being retained.
Desktop and mobile behavior
On desktop:
- The modal uses a centered popup layout.
- The optional popup image is displayed.
- The content appears inside the Group block.
- The floating teaser can appear on the left or right side.
On mobile:
- The popup image is hidden.
- The signup content remains available.
- The floating teaser can be enabled separately for mobile.
- The modal adapts to the available screen size.
Always preview the popup on both desktop and mobile after making layout changes.
Recommended setup
A typical Maison newsletter popup can use:
Delay before showing: 5 seconds
Frequency: 7 days
Show on home page only: Optional
Show only to visitors: On
Image:
Newsletter promotional image
Group:
Heading
Email signup
Text
Social media
Floating bar:
Show on: Desktop & mobile
Text: Get 20% off
Position: Left
Adjust the timing and frequency based on how often you want visitors to encounter the signup invitation.
Troubleshooting
If the newsletter popup does not appear, make sure the Email signup section is enabled in the Overlay group.
If the popup does not appear immediately while testing, check the Delay before showing setting.
If the popup appeared previously but no longer opens automatically, the browser may have stored the previous dismissal. Wait for the configured frequency period or test in a separate browser profile.
If Frequency is set to 0 but the popup still does not open, make sure the Email signup section is enabled and that the page meets the Home page only and Visitor only conditions.
If the popup appears on the home page but not other pages, disable Show on home page only.
If the popup does not appear while you are logged in, check whether Show only to visitors is enabled.
If the popup image does not appear on mobile, this is expected. Maison intentionally hides the Email signup modal image on mobile.
If the email form is missing, open the Group block and add an Email signup block.
If the popup has no heading or supporting text, add Heading and Text blocks inside the Group.
If the floating teaser does not appear, check Floating bar > Show on and make sure the selected device type matches the device you are testing.
If the teaser appears on the wrong side, change Floating bar > Position to Left or Right.
If the popup does not automatically open while another popup or modal is already open, close the other modal and reload the page for another test.
If you need the popup to open only when customers click the floating teaser and never automatically, the current Maison settings do not provide a complete teaser-only mode and a customization would be required.
