The Show on model feature lets customers switch product cards from the regular product image to an alternative lifestyle or model image.

This feature is available on Maison collection product grids and search results. Each product can use its own model image through a product metafield.
How to Set Up Show on Model in Maison
Steps:
Create the model media metafield
-
From your SHOPLINE admin, open Settings > Customize data.
-
In the Metafields section, select Product.

-
Click Add fields.
-
Enter a field name such as:
Model media -
Set the namespace and key to:
theme.model_media -
Select Document as the data type.
-
Configure the field as a single value.
-
Use an image for this metafield when assigning its value to a product.
-
Click Add or Save.

Maison specifically checks the theme.model_media metafield and only displays its value when the media type is an image.
Add a model image to a product
-
From your SHOPLINE admin, open Products.
-
Select the product you want to configure.
-
Scroll to the Customize data section.
-
Find the Model media metafield.
-
Upload or select the image that should be used as the model view.
-
Click Save or Update.

Repeat these steps for each product that should support Show on model.
Each product can have its own model image.
Products without a value in theme.model_media continue to use their normal product image when customers switch to the model view.
Prepare the model image
-
Use an image that clearly shows the product in a lifestyle or model setting.
-
For the best visual transition, use an image with a similar composition and aspect ratio to the product card image.
-
Make sure the product remains visible when the image is cropped by the product card.
-
Use a sufficiently high-resolution image so it remains sharp on larger screens.
-
Add alternative text to the uploaded image where available.
The model image uses the same aspect ratio and image-fit settings as the normal product card image.
Enable Show on model on collection pages
-
From your SHOPLINE admin, open Online Store > Design.
-
Locate your Maison theme and click Design.
-
Use the page selector to open a Collection template.
-
Open the main product-list section.
-
Find the Show on model setting.
-
Enable Show on model.
-
Click Save.

When enabled, Maison adds a Show on model control above the collection product grid.
Customers can use this control to switch all supported product cards between the normal product image and the model image.
Enable Show on model on search results
- From the Maison Theme Editor, use the page selector to open the Search template.

-
Open the main search section.
-
Open the Results block.
-
Find the Show on model setting.
-
Enable Show on model.
-
Click Save.

Maison displays the same Show on model control above the search results.
Only product results can use the model image. Other search result types, such as articles, collections, or pages, are not affected.
Switch between Show on model and Product view
When Show on model is enabled in the Theme Editor, customers see a control above the product grid.
The default control displays:
Show on model
When the customer selects it:
-
Maison switches supported product cards to the image stored in
theme.model_media. -
The control changes to:
Product view -
Selecting Product view switches the cards back to their regular product images.
The switch applies to the product grid as a whole rather than to one individual card.
Configure Show on model on multiple collection templates
-
Open the collection template selector in the Maison Theme Editor.
-
Select the first collection template.
-
Open the main product-list section.
-
Enable Show on model.
-
Click Save.
-
Open the next collection template.
-
Repeat the same setup.
Maison stores the setting separately for each collection template.
If your store uses templates such as:
- Default collection
- Chairs
- Sofas
- Lighting
- Accessories
- Room
check each template where you want the Show on model control to appear.
The theme.model_media metafield does not need to be recreated for each template.
Remove the model image from a product
-
From your SHOPLINE admin, open Products.
-
Select the product.
-
Scroll to the Customize data section.
-
Find Model media.
-
Remove the assigned image.
-
Click Save or Update.
The product will no longer have an alternative model image.
The Show on model control can remain enabled for the collection or search page. Products without a model image will simply continue displaying their regular product image.
Disable Show on model for a collection
-
Open the required collection template in the Maison Theme Editor.
-
Open the main product-list section.
-
Disable Show on model.
-
Click Save.
The Show on model control is removed from that collection template.
Removing the control does not delete the theme.model_media values stored on your products.
Disable Show on model for search results
-
Open the Search template in the Maison Theme Editor.
-
Open the main search section.
-
Open the Results block.
-
Disable Show on model.
-
Click Save.
The control is removed from the search results while the product metafield values remain unchanged.
Show on Model metafield structure
Maison expects the following product metafield:
Field name: Model media
Namespace and key: theme.model_media
Data type: Document
Value type: Single value
Content used by Maison: Image
Maison reads the metafield from the theme namespace and checks the model_media value.
The theme only displays the alternative media when its media type is:
image
For this reason, use an image rather than another document or media type.
Show on Model behavior
- Show on model is designed for product cards.
- The feature is available in the main collection product grid.
- The feature is also available in search results.
- The feature uses the product metafield
theme.model_media. - Each product can have a different model image.
- Products without a model image remain on their regular product image.
- The model image uses the same product-card aspect ratio as the regular image.
- The model image uses the same image-fit setting as the regular product card image.
- The customer switches the entire product grid between model view and product view.
- The Show on model control changes to Product view while model view is active.
Remembering the customer's view
Maison remembers the customer's selected view in supported browsers.
For example, if a customer selects Show on model, Maison can preserve that selection when the customer navigates between supported collection or search pages.
When the customer selects Product view, the preference is updated again.
The remembered preference depends on browser storage being available.
Interaction with the secondary product image
Maison can also display a secondary product image when the product card is hovered.
The model image is a separate image from the normal featured image and secondary image.
When model view is active, the image stored in theme.model_media is displayed as the product-card model image.
You do not need to replace or remove the normal featured or secondary product images to use Show on model.
Where Show on Model is available
In this version of Maison, the Show on model switch is built into:
- Collection product grids
- Search results
The setting is not a global Theme setting.
It must be enabled in each applicable collection template and separately in the Search results block.
The feature is not used as a model-image switch on the main product detail page.
Troubleshooting
If the Show on model control does not appear on a collection page, open that collection template and make sure Show on model is enabled in the main product-list section.
If the control does not appear on the search page, open the Search template, select the Results block, and enable Show on model.
If the control appears but a product image does not change, make sure that product has a value assigned to:
theme.model_media
If the metafield does not appear on the product page, make sure the metafield definition was created under the Product module.
If the model image still does not appear, make sure the metafield contains an image. Maison does not display another media type through this feature.
If the model image looks incorrectly cropped, check the product card Aspect ratio and Image fit settings. The model image uses the same settings as the normal product image.
If some products switch to model images while others do not, check the theme.model_media metafield individually for the products that remain unchanged.
If the feature appears on one collection template but not another, enable Show on model separately on the missing collection template.
If the storefront opens in model view even though the customer did not just select it on that page, the browser may have remembered the customer's previous Show on model preference.
