The Inventory status block in Be Yours displays inventory messages on product pages and featured product sections. It helps merchants show low-stock messages or incoming inventory messages based on the selected product variant.

This block is useful for:
- Creating urgency when stock is low
- Showing customers that inventory is coming soon
- Displaying variant-based inventory status
- Improving product page transparency
- Encouraging customers to purchase before an item sells out
How to setup Inventory Status Block
STEPS:
1. Understanding How the Inventory Status Block Works
The Inventory status block checks the currently selected variant and displays inventory information based on that variant.
Theme block type:
inventory_status
This block is available in:
| Section | Template area |
|---|---|
| Main product | Product templates |
| Featured product | Dynamic section |
The block can display:
| Message type | Example |
|---|---|
| Low stock message | Hurry, only 3 items left in stock! |
| Incoming inventory message | Inventory on the way |
| Back in stock date | Back in stock Aug 30, 2026 |
| Ready to ship date | Ready to ship Aug 30, 2026 |
Important:
- The message updates based on the selected variant.
- If the product has variants, each variant can show a different inventory status.
- The block depends on Shopify inventory data.
- If Shopify is not tracking inventory for the variant, the low-stock message will not display.
2. Add the Inventory Status Block
To add the Inventory status block to a product template:
- From Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Find the Be Yours theme and click Customize.
- Open the template selector.
- Select Products.
- Open the product template you want to edit.
- Select the Main product section.
- Click Add block.
- Select Inventory status.
- Drag the block to the position where you want it to appear.
- Click Save.
Recommended position:
| Position | Reason |
|---|---|
| Below the price | Customers can see stock status before choosing options. |
| Below the variant picker | Best for products with multiple variants. |
| Above the buy buttons | Creates urgency before purchase. |
Recommended screenshot to add:
Theme Editor > Product template > Main product > Add block > Inventory status
3. Inventory Status Block Settings
The block includes three main settings.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Inventory threshold | Controls when the low-stock message appears. |
| Show inventory transfer notice | Displays incoming inventory messages when Shopify has incoming inventory data. |
| Color scheme | Controls the color style of the inventory progress bar. |
Inventory threshold
This setting controls when the low-stock message appears.
Example:
Inventory threshold: 10
If the selected variant has 10 or fewer items left in stock, the block can display a low-stock message.
Example message:
Hurry, only 5 items left in stock!
Available range:
| Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|
| 0 | 20 |
Show inventory transfer notice
This setting allows the theme to display incoming inventory messages when Shopify has incoming inventory data for the selected variant.
Possible messages:
Inventory on the way
Back in stock Aug 30, 2026
Ready to ship Aug 30, 2026
Color scheme
This setting controls the color style of the progress bar shown with the low-stock message.
Available options:
| Option |
|---|
| Accent 1 |
| Accent 2 |
| Accent 3 |
| Accent 4 |
| Accent 5 |
| Accent 6 |
4. When the Low-stock Message Displays
The low-stock message displays only when all required conditions are met.
The selected variant must:
- Be tracked by Shopify inventory.
- Have an inventory quantity greater than
0. - Have an inventory quantity lower than or equal to the Inventory threshold.
- Not be set to continue selling when out of stock.
Example:
| Variant inventory | Threshold | Continue selling when out of stock | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 10 | Disabled | Low-stock message displays |
| 15 | 10 | Disabled | Low-stock message does not display |
| 0 | 10 | Disabled | Low-stock message does not display |
| 5 | 10 | Enabled | Low-stock message does not display |
| Not tracked | 10 | Not applicable | Low-stock message does not display |
Important:
If Continue selling when out of stock is enabled, the low-stock message is hidden. This helps avoid showing a limited-stock warning for products that can continue selling beyond the current inventory quantity.
5. When the Incoming Inventory Message Displays
The incoming inventory message can display when Shopify has incoming inventory data for the selected variant.
The message depends on Shopify data.
| Shopify inventory data | Message |
|---|---|
| Incoming inventory exists, but no incoming date is available | Inventory on the way |
| Incoming inventory exists and the variant is currently unavailable | Back in stock [date] |
| Incoming inventory exists and the variant is currently available | Ready to ship [date] |
The block setting Show inventory transfer notice must be enabled.
Important:
The theme does not create incoming inventory data by itself. This information must come from Shopify inventory and transfer data.
6. Set Up Inventory in Shopify Admin
To make the Inventory status block work correctly, check the product variant inventory settings.
- From Shopify admin, go to Products.
- Open the product.
- If the product has variants, open the variant you want to edit.
- Check the inventory settings.
- Make sure inventory is tracked by Shopify if you want to show low-stock messages.
- Enter the inventory quantity.
- Configure whether the product should continue selling when out of stock.
- Click Save.
Recommended setup for low-stock messages:
| Setting | Recommended value |
|---|---|
| Track quantity | Enabled |
| Inventory quantity | Greater than 0 |
| Continue selling when out of stock | Disabled |
| Inventory threshold in theme | Higher than or equal to the quantity you want to highlight |
Example:
Inventory quantity: 4
Inventory threshold: 10
Result:
Hurry, only 4 items left in stock!
7. Edit the Inventory Status Text
The Inventory status text comes from the theme language content.
Default text examples:
Hurry, only {{ count }} item left in stock!
Hurry, only {{ count }} items left in stock!
Inventory on the way
Back in stock {{ date }}
Ready to ship {{ date }}
To edit these texts:
- From Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Find the Be Yours theme.
- Click the three-dot menu or Actions.
- Select Edit default theme content.
- Search for the text you want to edit.
Example search terms:
Hurry, only
Inventory on the way
Back in stock
Ready to ship
- Update the text.
- Click Save.
Important:
Keep the dynamic variables if they are used.
Example:
{{ count }}
{{ date }}
If these variables are removed, the quantity or date may no longer appear in the message.
8. Recommended Setup
For most stores, we recommend this setup:
| Goal | Recommended setup |
|---|---|
| Show urgency when stock is low | Enable inventory tracking, set threshold between 5 and 10 |
| Avoid confusing messages for backorder products | Do not use low-stock messaging when continue selling is enabled |
| Show incoming inventory information | Enable inventory transfer notice |
| Keep product page clean | Place Inventory status above the Buy buttons |
| Products with many variants | Place Inventory status below the Variant picker |
| Pre-order products | Use carefully and add clear pre-order text near the button |
Recommended block position:
Product title
Rating
Price
Variant picker
Inventory status
Buy buttons
Recommended threshold:
| Store type | Suggested threshold |
|---|---|
| Small inventory store | 3 to 5 |
| Fashion or beauty store | 5 to 10 |
| High-volume store | 10 to 20 |
| Made-to-order store | 0 or do not use the block |
9. Inventory Status and Variants
The Inventory status block follows the currently selected variant.
This means:
- A product can show different inventory messages for different variants.
- Size S can show low stock while Size M does not.
- One color can show incoming inventory while another color is available.
- If a customer changes variant options, the status can update based on the selected variant.
Example:
| Variant | Inventory quantity | Threshold | Message |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black / S | 3 | 10 | Hurry, only 3 items left in stock! |
| Black / M | 18 | 10 | No inventory message |
| White / S | 0 | 10 | No low-stock message |
| White / M | Incoming inventory | 10 | Inventory on the way |
Important:
If the product has many variants, make sure each variant has accurate inventory data in Shopify admin.
10. Inventory Status and Pre-order Products
The Inventory status block should be used carefully with pre-order products.
For pre-order products, merchants often enable:
Continue selling when out of stock
When this option is enabled, the low-stock message is hidden by the theme.
This is expected behavior because a pre-order item may continue selling even when the inventory quantity is 0.
Recommended setup for pre-order products:
| Goal | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Explain pre-order status | Use a Text block, Collapsible row, or product description. |
| Show estimated shipping date | Add the date manually or use a metafield. |
| Show low stock urgency | Only use Inventory status if inventory is tracked and continue selling is disabled. |
| Notify customers when back in stock | Use a back-in-stock app. |
Important:
The Inventory status block does not automatically notify customers when a product is back in stock. If you need customer notifications, waitlists, or restock email alerts, use a dedicated app.
11. Limitations
Please note the following behavior:
- The Inventory status block does not control product availability.
- The block does not make sold-out products purchasable.
- The block does not automatically notify customers when products are back in stock.
- The block does not collect customer emails for restock alerts.
- Back-in-stock notifications require a dedicated app.
- The block only displays low-stock messages for Shopify-tracked inventory.
- The block hides the low-stock message when inventory quantity is
0. - The block hides the low-stock message when the variant is set to continue selling when out of stock.
- The incoming inventory message depends on Shopify incoming inventory data.
- The block does not create or manage inventory transfers.
- The block does not show exact inventory quantities when the quantity is above the threshold.
- The block follows the selected variant, so incorrect variant inventory data can cause incorrect messages.
- Text changes should be made through Edit default theme content.
