The Similar Products feature helps customers continue shopping when a product is sold out. Instead of reaching a dead end, they can quickly view related products from the product card.
This feature works with Shopify product recommendations and can be tuned through the free Search & Discovery app.
STEPS:
1. How Similar Products Works
The feature uses a global Similar Products drawer.
The drawer is loaded once on the storefront and product cards can open it when needed.
When a customer clicks Similar products, the theme requests Shopify product recommendations for that product and displays them inside a popup.It can show up to 6 related products.
2. Enable or Disable Similar Products
The setting is available in Theme settings.
- From Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Find the Be Yours theme and click Customize.
- Click the Theme settings icon.
- Open Product tiles.
- Find Similar products button.
- Choose the mode you want.
- Click Save.
Available modes:
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Off | Disables the Similar Products button. Sold-out product cards use the normal sold-out button behavior. |
| Sold-out products only | Shows the Similar Products button on sold-out product cards. |
| All products | Shows Similar Products access for all product cards, including available products. |
3. Sold-out Product Card Behavior
When Similar products button is set to Sold-out products only or All products, sold-out product cards display a Similar products button in the product card action area.
Instead of showing only a disabled sold-out button, customers can open a popup of related products.
Important:
- The sold-out badge can still appear on the product card.
- The Similar Products button replaces the disabled sold-out action button.
- The popup recommendations are based on the sold-out product.
4. All Products Mode
When Similar products button is set to All products, available product cards can also show a Similar Products trigger.
In this mode:
- Sold-out product cards show the Similar products button.
- Available product cards show a small Similar Products icon trigger.
- Customers can open similar recommendations for any product card.
Use this mode when you want customers to browse alternative or related products from all product cards, not only sold-out products.
5. Popup Content
The popup displays Shopify-powered recommendations for the product that was clicked.
The popup can display:

| Product image | Shows the recommended product image. |
| Product title | Links to the recommended product page. |
| Product price | Displays the product price. |
| Product badge | Displays product badge when available. |
If Shopify does not return any recommendations, the popup displays an empty message:
No similar products found
6. Tune Results in Search & Discovery
Similar Products uses Shopify product recommendations.
To adjust recommendation results:
- From Shopify admin, open the Search & Discovery app.
- Go to product recommendations.
- Choose the product you want to tune.
- Adjust related product recommendations.
- Save your changes.
The theme displays the recommendation results provided by Shopify.
Important:
The theme does not manually choose the products shown in the popup. The results come from Shopify recommendations and can be tuned in the Search & Discovery app.
7. Edit Similar Products Text
The button and popup text come from the theme language content.
To edit the text:
- From Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Find the Be Yours theme.
- Click the three-dot menu or Actions.
- Select Edit default theme content.
- Search for the text you want to change.
- Update the text.
- Click Save.

8. Notes and Limitations
Please note the following behavior:
- This feature is available from Be Yours version 9.2.0.
- The setting is located under Theme settings > Product tiles.
- Results are powered by Shopify product recommendations.
- Results can be tuned in the Search & Discovery app.
- The popup can show up to 6 products.
- If Shopify returns no recommendations, the popup shows the empty message.
- The feature does not create recommendations by itself.
- The feature does not control product availability.
- The feature does not replace the sold-out badge.
- If the setting is Off, sold-out products use the normal disabled sold-out button behavior.
- If the setting is All products, available product cards can also open similar product recommendations.
Troubleshooting
If Similar Products does not work as expected, please check the following:
- Make sure you are using Be Yours version 9.2.0 or later.
- Go to Theme settings > Product tiles and check the Similar products button setting.
- If the button does not show on sold-out products, make sure the setting is not Off.
- If you want the feature on all products, set the mode to All products.
- If the popup is empty, check whether Shopify has recommendations for that product.
- If the recommendations are not relevant, adjust them in the Search & Discovery app.
- Make sure the recommended products are active and available on the Online Store sales channel.
- If text needs to be changed, update it in Edit default theme content.
- Clear your browser cache and refresh the storefront.
- Make sure you are using the latest version of the Be Yours theme.
