The Inline search option displays the search field directly on your storefront instead of opening a slide-out drawer. This allows customers to start searching from the header area without opening an overlay panel.

In Concept, Inline search can work as a regular search form, as a predictive search field, or with voice search depending on your global search settings.
How to Set Up Inline Search in Concept
Steps:
Enable search in Theme settings
-
From your Shopify admin, open Online Store > Themes.
-
Click Customize on your Concept theme.
-
In the theme editor, click the Theme settings icon.
-
Open Search.
-
Enable Search.
-
Select Inline as the search type.
-
Click Save.
When Inline search is selected, the search field appears directly on the storefront instead of opening the Search drawer.
If Search is disabled, the inline search field will not appear.

Check the header search area
-
Open the Header section in the theme editor.
-
Make sure search is enabled in Theme settings > Search.
-
Preview the storefront.
-
Check the header area where the search field is displayed.
-
Click inside the search field and enter a search term.
-
Submit the form to open the Shopify search results page.
Inline search uses the same Shopify search results page as the other search types.
Enable voice search
-
In the theme editor, open Theme settings > Search.
-
Enable Voice search.
-
Click Save.
When voice search is enabled, a microphone button can appear in the search field. Customers can click the microphone button and speak their search keyword instead of typing it manually.
Voice search works with the selected search type, including Inline search. In Inline search, the microphone button appears inside or next to the inline search field, depending on the header layout and available space.
Voice search depends on browser support and microphone permission. If the customer's browser does not support voice input or microphone access is blocked, the voice search button may not work as expected.
Configure predictive search
-
In the theme editor, open Theme settings > Search.
-
Enable Predictive search if you want live results to appear while customers type.
-
Adjust Predictive search limit to control how many product results can appear.
-
Enable Show vendor if you want product vendors to appear in predictive product results.
-
Enable Show price if you want product prices to appear in predictive product results.
-
Click Save.
When predictive search is enabled, Inline search can show matching products, suggestions, articles, collections, and pages while customers type.
When predictive search is disabled, customers can still type a search term and submit the form to the search results page.
Add recommended search links
-
In Theme settings > Search, find the Predictive search recommendation setting.
-
Select a menu that contains the links you want to show before customers type a search term.
-
Click Save.
Recommended search links are useful for showing popular searches, featured collections, buying guides, or support pages.
These links can appear before customers start typing, depending on your predictive search setup.
Configure the typewriter effect
-
In Theme settings > Search, enable Typewriter effect if you want animated placeholder text in the search field.
-
Add the starter text in Typewriter starter text.
-
Click Save.
The typewriter effect appears inside the search input area before customers start typing.
This effect is optional and works with the predictive search experience.
Choose when to use Inline search
-
Use Inline search if you want the search field to be visible directly on the storefront.
-
Use it when search is an important part of the shopping experience.
-
Use it for stores with large catalogs, many collections, or product-heavy navigation.
-
Use Voice search if you want customers to search by speaking instead of typing.
-
Use Search drawer instead if you prefer a cleaner header with only a search icon.
-
Use Search page if you want customers to go directly to the standard search results page.
Inline search behavior
- The search field appears directly in the storefront layout.
- It does not open the Search drawer overlay.
- Customers can submit the search form to open the Shopify search results page.
- Predictive results appear only when Predictive search is enabled.
- Recommended links can appear when a recommendation menu is selected.
- Product results can show vendor and price depending on the search settings.
- The microphone button can appear when Voice search is enabled.
- Voice search requires browser support and microphone permission.
- Inline search uses the same Shopify search logic as the other search types.
Troubleshooting
If Inline search does not appear, make sure Search is enabled in Theme settings > Search.
If the search still opens as a drawer, make sure the search type is set to Inline, not Drawer.
If predictive results do not appear, make sure Predictive search is enabled.
If recommended links do not appear, make sure a menu is selected in Predictive search recommendation and that the menu has links.
If product prices or vendors are missing, check the Show price and Show vendor settings in Theme settings > Search.
If the microphone button does not appear, make sure Voice search is enabled in Theme settings > Search.
If voice search does not work, check whether the browser supports voice input and whether microphone permission is allowed.
If search results seem incomplete, check your Shopify products, pages, articles, and collection visibility settings.
If you want the search to open as a side panel instead, use the Search drawer search type and make sure the Search drawer section exists in the Overlay group.
