The Inventory status block allows you to display stock information on product pages. It helps customers understand whether a selected variant is in stock, low in stock, sold out, available for continued selling, or expected to be restocked.

In Concept, this block can appear in the product information area and updates automatically when customers select a different product variant.
Overview
Use the Inventory status block when you want to show stock availability near the product purchase area.
This block is useful for:
- Showing an In stock message
- Showing a Low stock warning
- Displaying the exact inventory quantity when needed
- Showing an Out of stock message
- Showing an incoming inventory notice when inventory transfers are configured in Shopify
- Encouraging customers to buy when only a few units are left
The block works with Shopify inventory tracking. If a variant is not tracked by Shopify inventory, the inventory status will not be shown on the storefront.
How to Set Up the Inventory Status Block in Concept
STEPS:
Step 1: Add the Inventory Status Block
From your Shopify admin, open the product template where you want to display the inventory status.
- Go to Online Store > Themes.
- Find the Concept theme and click Customize.
- Open the product template you want to edit, such as Default product.
- Open the Product information section.
- Click Add block.
- Select Inventory status.
- Drag the block to the position where you want it to appear.
- Click Save.
After the block is added, the inventory message will display based on the selected variant’s inventory settings.
The Inventory status block can also be used inside the Featured product section, because the Featured product section supports many of the same product information blocks as the main product page.
Step 2: Configure the Inventory Status Settings
After adding the block, configure the available settings in the theme editor.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Low inventory threshold | Defines when the variant should be treated as low stock. The value can be set from 0 to 20. |
| Show inventory transfer notice | Shows an incoming inventory message when the selected variant has incoming inventory in Shopify. |
| Show inventory count | Controls when the exact inventory quantity is displayed. |
| Color scheme | Controls the color style of the low-stock progress bar. |
Low inventory threshold
The Low inventory threshold controls when the block changes from a normal in-stock message to a low-stock warning.
Example:
| Threshold | Variant inventory quantity | Result |
|---|---|---|
10 |
15 |
The block shows a normal in-stock message. |
10 |
8 |
The block shows a low-stock message. |
10 |
1 |
The block shows a low-stock message with stronger urgency. |
If you set the threshold to 0, available variants will show as in stock instead of low stock.
Show inventory count
The Show inventory count setting controls whether the exact stock quantity appears in the message.
| Option | Behavior |
|---|---|
| None | Does not show the exact quantity. Low-stock variants display a general low-stock message. |
| Low inventory threshold | Shows the exact quantity only when the variant quantity is at or below the low inventory threshold. This is the default behavior. |
| Always | Shows the exact quantity for both normal in-stock and low-stock variants. |
Recommended setup:
| Store goal | Recommended setting |
|---|---|
| Create urgency without showing exact stock all the time | Low inventory threshold |
| Keep stock numbers private | None |
| Show full transparency about stock levels | Always |
Show inventory transfer notice
Enable Show inventory transfer notice if you want the theme to display a message when inventory is on the way.
When this setting is enabled and Shopify has incoming inventory for the selected variant, the block can show messages such as:
- Inventory on the way
- Back in stock on a specific date
- Ready to ship on a specific date
This depends on how the inventory transfer is configured in Shopify.
Color scheme
The Color scheme setting applies to the low-stock progress bar.
It supports the theme accent colors:
- Accent 1
- Accent 2
- Accent 3
- Accent 4
- Accent 5
- Accent 6
The color scheme is mainly visible when the selected variant is in the low-stock state, because the low-stock state displays a progress bar.
Step 3: Understand the Inventory Messages
The message shown by the block depends on the selected variant’s inventory quantity, inventory tracking, incoming inventory, and selling policy.
Normal in-stock state
When the selected variant is tracked by Shopify and has a quantity greater than the low inventory threshold, the block shows a normal in-stock message.
Depending on the Show inventory count setting, the message can display as:
In stock, ready to ship15 in stock
Low-stock state
When the selected variant quantity is greater than 0 and less than or equal to the Low inventory threshold, the block shows a low-stock warning.
Depending on the Show inventory count setting, the message can display as:
Low stockHurry, only 3 items left in stock!
The low-stock state also displays a progress bar based on the variant inventory quantity and the configured threshold.
Incoming inventory state
When the selected variant has no available quantity, has incoming inventory, and Show inventory transfer notice is enabled, the block can show an incoming stock notice.
The message can change depending on whether Shopify has a next incoming date.
| Inventory condition | Example result |
|---|---|
| Incoming inventory with a date | Back in stock Jun 30, 2026 |
| Incoming inventory without a date | Inventory on the way |
| Continue selling with incoming date | Ready to ship Jun 30, 2026 |
Continue-selling state
If the selected variant is out of stock but Shopify allows selling when out of stock, the block displays an in-stock style message.
This is controlled by the product variant’s inventory policy in Shopify.
Out-of-stock state
If the selected variant is tracked by Shopify, has no available quantity, has no active incoming inventory notice, and does not allow continued selling, the block shows:
Out of stock
Not tracked by Shopify
If the selected variant is not tracked by Shopify inventory, the block is visually hidden on the storefront.
Step 4: Set Up Product Inventory in Shopify
The Inventory status block reads inventory information from the selected product variant in Shopify.
To make the block work correctly, check the product’s variant inventory setup in Shopify admin.
Open the product you want to configure:
- Go to Products.
- Open the product.
- Scroll to the Variants area if the product has variants.
- Open the variant you want to configure.
- Check the inventory settings.
Recommended inventory setup:
| Inventory field | Recommended setup |
|---|---|
| Track quantity | Enable this if you want the Inventory status block to display stock messages. |
| Quantity | Enter the correct available quantity for each variant. |
| Continue selling when out of stock | Enable this only if customers should be allowed to purchase even when inventory reaches 0. |
| Incoming inventory / transfers | Configure this in Shopify if you want incoming stock messages to appear. |
If Track quantity is disabled, Shopify does not provide tracked inventory data for that variant. In that case, the Inventory status block will not display a visible inventory status.
Step 5: Preview the Inventory Status on the Storefront
After configuring the block and product inventory, preview the product page on your storefront.
Check the following:
- The Inventory status block appears in the correct position.
- In-stock variants display the correct message.
- Low-stock variants show the low-stock message when their quantity is at or below the threshold.
- The progress bar appears for low-stock variants.
- Out-of-stock variants show the correct out-of-stock message.
- Variants that allow continued selling display as available.
- Incoming inventory notices appear when inventory transfers are configured.
- The message updates correctly when customers select a different variant.
Notes and Limitations
Please note the following behavior:
- The block depends on Shopify inventory tracking.
- If the selected variant is not tracked by Shopify inventory, the block is hidden visually.
- The block updates automatically when a customer changes variants.
- The low-stock progress bar appears only when the selected variant quantity is at or below the low inventory threshold.
- The Color scheme setting affects the low-stock progress bar.
- The exact inventory count only appears based on the Show inventory count setting.
- Incoming inventory messages depend on Shopify inventory transfer data.
- The block can be added only once in the same product information area.
- The same block is available in the main product page and the Featured product section.
Troubleshooting
If the Inventory status block does not display or does not update correctly, check the following:
- Make sure the Inventory status block has been added to the product template.
- Make sure the product variant has inventory tracking enabled in Shopify.
- Make sure the selected variant has a valid inventory quantity.
- Make sure you are previewing a product that uses the template where the block was added.
- If the low-stock message does not appear, check the Low inventory threshold value.
- If the quantity does not appear, check the Show inventory count setting.
- If the transfer notice does not appear, make sure Show inventory transfer notice is enabled and incoming inventory is configured in Shopify.
- If the message does not change after selecting a different variant, refresh the storefront and test again.
- Clear your browser cache if the old layout is still showing.
